How to Join

  1. Where do we go?

Most of our events are in the Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana areas. We also try to attend at least one large national event near an actual battlefield every year.

  2.  When are we in the field?

We have events scheduled year round. The start of our reenacting season begins in late April and lasts until late October. The battery attends one to two events every month. In the winter months we have meetings and canon work days to prepare for the upcoming season.

  3.  How does it work?

Stanford’s Battery has a core group of veteran reenactors that will help guide new recruits in becoming a artillery reenactors. We have enough loner equipment to outfit 3-4 solders at each event. This way you can see if this hobby is for you. If after the event you decide it’s not for you, then there are no hard feelings. If, however you decide it is for you, our veterans will be more than happy to help you find the equipment you need.

  4.  How much does it cost?

The cost for equipping an infantry soldier is over $1000. Don’t panic! The cost to equip an artillery soldier is about $300 and you don’t have to buy your kit the first day, you can use one of our kits until you get your own. Most new recruits have their own kit in the first six months.
