Stanford's Battery of Illinois is an educational non-profit organization (Federally recognized 501.c.3) that is dedicated to preserving Civil War history through School Presentations, Living History Displays, Large Scale Public Reenactments and Interactive Camp Activities.
Our goal is to educate the public of how the average soldier lived during one of the most prolific eras in US History. Every event and battle helped mold our country into what it is today. We want to educate the public in an interactive setting on how the US of today was formed by the deeds and actions of those who laid down their lives during the Civil War.
Our membership is primarily from the Chicago-land area (including the suburbs) as well as Northwest Indiana. Our public events take place on most weekends from April through October. However, we have activities scheduled year round including School Presentations and Work Shops.
As a unit, we try to be as authentic as possible in appearance, but still, have fun. Stanford’s Battery currently has 4 full-scale cannons in addition to our period camp and offers other activities including live music and Civil War era games. Musicians are welcome to participate in the Battery Band, which portrays camp and field musicians while performing popular music of the era.
New members are always welcome! If you’re interested in participating in this amazing experience or just want more information, leave us a message on the contact page.
